To master the art of spear play, it is important to hold the spear firmly and flexibly, while advancing and retreating freely and smoothly. The point of the spear should be used to quickly and directly prick the opponent, with force applied to the tip of the spear. The fundamental technique of spear play involves moving the point of the spear in a circle, which requires hard practice but is essential for all styles of spear play.

To ensure you have the right size spear, stand straight and stretch one arm straight over your head. The tiptop of the spear should not be shorter than your wrist or longer than the tip of your stretched finger.
